Schools
Some schools find it more difficult than others to find suitable volunteers to fill vacancies on their governing bodies. The reasons could be geographic, the need for particular skills, or simply that the local communities are not easy to make contact with.
To meet the demands of these schools, SGOSS has established a very professional and effective Direct to Schools service. This service is completely FREE and utilises the SGOSS expertise and resources to help fill Community, Foundation, Partnership and Parent Governor vacancies.
If you are having difficulty in filling a governor place, SGOSS may be able to help through its Direct to Schools service. If you would like help in finding a suitable volunteer, please complete a standard or specialist schools
Vacancy Notification Form and return it to SGOSS via email or post. Members of the School Governors' One-Stop Shop team will then check its database and provide details of any suitable volunteers.
If SGOSS has no volunteers immediately available they will, with the school’s permission, use a number of marketing techniques to raise awareness within the community. These include:
- Publicity aimed at staff in local businesses
- Press articles in local newspapers
- Information on local bulletin boards and web-sites
- Advertising of the vacancy on the SGOSS website which receives up-to 15,000 hits per month.
The One-Stop Shop also makes its materials available to schools if they feel this will help them carry out their own recruitment.
If you have a vacancy on your school’s governing body please check the Vacancies Map for your local area contact.
