Hounslow

SGOSS has been utilising the large business community within the borough to develop lasting links between local employers and local schools. This has been aided by the production of a booklet designed specifically for Hounslow employees highlighting both the need for volunteer governors in the borough and the benefits to them of volunteering as school governors.

Alongside this, leaflets have been produced detailing the areas of most need within the borough. These have been distributed through many employers of varying sizes. Several thousand have also been circulated door to door in selected postcodes. In addition to leaflet distribution, SGOSS has arranged for articles on local websites and in publications produced by the local Chambers of Commerce.

The Hounslow marketing campaign culminated in February 2010 with an event at HarleQuins Rugby Club where the new formed partnerships with Hounslow based employees were celebrated. This was also an opportunity to further raise awareness of the need for school governors. This event brought together representatives from SGOSS, Hounslow Local Authority, local schools and corporate supporters.

SGOSS actively works with many of the boroughs large employers and has recently hosted recruitment initiatives at Ricoh, Allianz, IBM and GlaxoSmithKline. The work in Hounslow has already resulted in a host of highly skilled volunteers coming forward and applying to be school governors.
