'During 2011, HSBC have been trying a new approach internally to recruiting our school governors. Instead of giving general information and encouraging people to sign up we have had a more targeted approach.'

Each month SGOSS send a list of the individual schools across the UK that are looking for a governor. In addition to the main list, for each vacancy we receive a fact sheet with details of each school including the exact location. This is then promoted by various communications within each of the banks local regions.

This targeted approach has worked really well as employees can choose a school near their place of work or home. In addition they have full details of the school first and what is required before signing up.

The responses we have had from employees and the take up figures provided by SGOSS show that the new approach is working well and has a much higher rate of employees going on to become school governors than previously.
