"GOVERNORS MEAN BUSINESS" - SGOSS RESEARCH SUMMARY LAUNCHED
Independent research has validated the contribution of SGOSS volunteers to school governing bodies.
"Governors Mean Business" is the title of new research carried out by Dr Anne Punter and Professor John Adams on behalf of the School Governors’ One-Stop Shop (SGOSS)
.
The research showed that governors recruited and placed via SGOSS:
• Are more likely to take on senior roles within governing bodies.
• Are valued by head teachers and chairs for their willingness to challenge, monitor and evaluate.
• Are appreciated by head teachers and chairs for their ability to assimilate information quickly, ask relevant questions and take a strategic view.
• Display excellent attendance and commitment.
• Bring essential skills that enhance the effectiveness of the governing body.
• Integrate well into the governing body.
100% of Head Teachers reported that they would welcome an SGOSS recruited volunteer in the future.
Chief Executive of SGOSS, Steve Acklam said:
"School Governors’ One-Stop Shop has always understood the importance of appropriate research invalidating the added-value contribution of its school governor volunteers. I am delighted that these findings are simultaneously a total endorsement of the added value that volunteers recruited by SGOSS deliver to the schools they serve, and of the SGOSS way of working.”
