Plymouth
School Governors’ One-Stop Shop and Plymouth Governor Development Team have recently launched a major new recruitment drive to tackle the vacancies in and around the city.
Partnerships have been established with a number of local employers, including Babcock Marine (link to case study), The Wrigley Company and the Land Registry. A combination of internal communications and manned in-house recruitment events by SGOSS representatives has provided a new supply of skilled, enthusiastic volunteers.
The SGOSS Marketing team has designed a new leaflet, specifically aimed at attracting new volunteers in Plymouth, and arranged for its distribution to Plymouth households, whilst advertisements and editorials have also been placed in local press. Local students have also been encouraged to take advantage of the excellent governor training offered by Plymouth Governor Development Team, whilst becoming more involved in the local community and lending their enthusiasm to local educational development.

Karen Powell, Governor Development Officer, praised the work of SGOSS stating,
‘this has been a true partnership where we have worked together to ensure that the governors recruited in Plymouth can make a real difference to the children in our city schools. As a Team we have been offered proof work and input into plans at each stage of the campaign and the support has been invaluable’.
