  • This introductory guide to board-level volunteering explains what board-level volunteering is and what it involves.
  • This guide to volunteering as a charity trustee, school governor or member of the board of a public body such as an NHS trust provides information about board-level volunteering to individuals who wish to volunteer and employers/HR professionals who want to support employees wishing to volunteer for boards. It aims to encourage them to consider board-level volunteering and to take action to become involved.

• Volunteering England Resources
  • Umbrella organisation Volunteering England has published several summary reports on the nature and future of volunteering.
    Research has shown that a motivating factor for governors is their own development. It has also shown that experience gained in governance impacts positively on career success. Jane Phillips, a long-serving governor and former Chair of the National Association of School Governors has written a book which might help governors in their careers, their schools and their leisure time.
