  • Teachers TV is aTV channel and on-line service, designed to improve standards in schools in England by supporting the people who work in them. Its video content helps head-teachers, teachers, governors, teaching assistants, trainee teachers, teacher trainers and school support staff deliver education to the highest possible standard. Teachers TV is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, but is operated by a third-party supplier and is editorially independent of the Department. Every month, an estimated 200,000 people working in schools watch the channel on television and over 600,000 videos are downloaded or streamed from the website.

• Future Leaders
  • 1,000 Headteachers retired in 2004/2005, 1,250 retired in 2006/2007 and more are expected to retire in the next three to five years. Further, 60% are over 50 years old and 28% are over 55 years old, highlighting the significant challenge facing the education system. As the pool of eligible school leaders diminishes, governors have a pivotal part to play in securing the best possible successive leadership for schools and opportunities for children.
  • Future Leaders is a unique programme that aims to address this leadership shortage, as well as educational inequality and underachievement, by attracting and cultivating a new generation of exceptional leaders for challenging urban schools. Each Summer, a new Cohort of approximately 80 participants are intensively trained, coached, and mentored specifically towards becoming a Deputy Head the following year and a Headteacher within four years of joining the programme.
